nielanell’s studio shop is on the main street in the Shetland village of Hoswick, just before you reach Laurence Odie and Hoswick Visitor Centre.

This is a place of pilgrimage for those in the know - the small and unassuming shop only hinting at the tactile sweetshop within, bursting with vibrant colour and scrumptious texture.

The studio shop relies on a small team - a close group that supports the business and brings it to life.

Megan and Samuel in the studio as well as other special folk who help out. Eric and Roisin who knit and Minty, chief of linking - the most important job of all! Laurence Odie together with Sarah, Tracy and the rest of the folk who brought the Mirrie Dancers designs to life. Niela’s mom, at 82, is the chief hand-knitter!

You are more than welcome to come along for a chat, for coffee, to knit or spin.  An eclectic group is often found in the studio putting the world to rights.

In high season, May to September, the studio shop has visitors from all over the world.

In low season, Nielanell develops her practice as a textile artist by taking time out to concentrate on fresh concepts and new processes.  She spends a lot of time in her separate glass studio developing new products.

But if you’re in Shetland make sure you email, phone or call in over the road and the sweetie shop can be opened! She also teaches and runs bespoke workshops so get in touch if you would like to learn.
