About me
Difficult to know what to say, really. Canadian. Life-long obsession with textiles, so much so that I went back to art school to study contemporary textiles after working in my profession as a lawyer for a long time.
First love is hand-spinning – and all the processes involved such as preparing fleece, dyeing and carding. Indeed this is how I do my colour studies – I am terrified of a paintbrush.
Designer? Artist? No idea. I struggle with the concept of fashion yet base my collections on lifestyle trends. I strive to develop my practice as a textile artist by taking time out every year to concentrate on fresh concepts and new processes. My own designing has always been based on the simplicity of the final garment construction as an aesthetic and conceptual preference.
I use the human figure as my form, and I feel my piece is unfinished until it is worn. At that moment the wearer’s form becomes my frame. As a painter might feel with a painting, I feel my own making process is not complete until it is framed. It’s all very difficult…
